Commedia Mask

This project for Costume Crafts Class was to teach the class how to properly create a mold, paper mache, and create a traditional Commedia mask with our own little creative twists to our masks.
I inspired my mask off of the Harlequin character. I first had to research what the mask looked like traditionally. Once the research was complete I carefully started molding the clay to the head form to create a proper mold to paper mache over.
Once I had my mold created I covered it with foil and smoothed it over. I finally started the paper mache with 8 layers minimum and let it dry over night. Once I was positive the Glue and paper had fully dried I then carefully cut the eye holes out and trimmed the rough edges.
Finally I finished it off with painting the signature harlequin pattern onto the mask.
